• The spring Regional Convention will be held May 4-6, 2012 in Orem, Utah. The Alpha Sigma Theta chapter at Utah Valley University will be hosting. This event will begin Friday afternoon and run through Sunday morning. Details will follow.

   Regional Project   

The regional officer team has designed a project for the rest of 2011.

Homelessness in our Communities: Video submissions and questions should be emailed to Dave Teuscher. Have your submissions in no later than 5 pm on December 16, 2011. This may be a chapter or individual activity.

Steps:

1. Research homelessness in their community
2. Contact resources and find out what type of support they provide
3. Interview and video record homeless shelters, food banks, churches, your chapter, and their local campuses student services

This documentary will showcase how our communities are helping the homeless. Here's a site that may help.

Recent Events

Honors in Action Conference

• The fall Honors in Action Conference was hosted by the Alpha Sigma Upsilon Chapter at Umpqua Community College (UCC) on October 14-16, 2011 in Roseburg, Oregon. The conference included h a tour of Henry Estates, a local winery, to learn more about UCC's viticulture program and their Southern Oregon Wine Institue (SOWI). Last January, SOWI was named Organization of the Year by the Oregon Wine Press, and more information is available in this article.

The annual Tillamook Toolkit Training was held in July hosted by the Beta Delta Epsilon chapter at Tillamook Bay Community College. Here are the presentations, as promised:

The 93rd International Phi Theta Kappa convention in Seattle, WA was incredible. Congratuations to Rho Theta from Mt. Hood Community College on their first runner up designation. We are extremely proud of Rho Theta and their outgoing international vice president, Onjalai Flake. If you missed the convention, photos are on individual Facebook pages.
